Sans Black Scapeshift
Also known as: WURG Scapeshift
Sans Black Scapeshift is a combo-control deck that uses land ramp to reach a one-card win condition like Scapeshift or Gifts Ungiven, utilizing countermagic, spot removal, and sweepers to survive until it can win on the spot.
Scapeshift is favorable into blue midrange and control matchups thanks to its land acceleration providing the extra mana to have the final word in counterspell interactions and to cast mana sinks to get ahead in card advantage. If a blue deck ever taps out to try and accrue card advantage or develop a threat, one of Scapeshift's win conditions can threaten to end the game outright with counterspells playing backup.
Scapeshift uses Time Walk not only as a combo piece with Regrowth and Fantastic Elasticity, but also as a spell that contributes towards a large land count by providing an additional land drop without having to tap out for the opponent's upcoming turn. Casting two copies of Time Walk with the help of one of the various Regrowth effects often provides an overwhelming advantage that is difficult to combat. Mystical Tutor is the other critical piece of the point spread, delivering any of the deck's win conditions or sweepers for just a single blue mana. Other common inclusions are Gifts Ungiven, Forth Eorlingas!, The One Ring, Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student // Tamiyo, Seasoned Scholar, and Dig Through Time.
