Grixis Discard is a proactive midrange deck that uses the synergies of cards that accrue value from discarding cards to gain on-board value and accumulate more resources. Its main goal is to create a difficult to overcome board state through grow threats such as Psychic Frog, Ivora, Insatiable Heir, or strong creatures like Carnage Interpreter and Captain Howler, Sea Scourge while disrupting the opponent's game plan with hand attack and counterspells.

The deck also leverages the ability to draw cards and dig for better threats while growing the existing board. Graveyard synergies are also common, where the ability to recur discarded threats is often used to apply pressure. Staples of the archetype include Alesha, Who Laughs at Fate who can consistently return creatures from the graveyard, Detective's Phoenix which can be cast from the graveyard, and the ever-present threat that is Abhorrent Oculus.

The deck can do well into control as much of the value accrual doesn't come from casting spells but from on-board effects that allow you to discard and stay proactive.

The points in the deck are flexible, but many decks use some number of moxen and Psychic Frog. 3 Mox and Frog or 2 Mox, Frog, and 3 flex points are the most frequent point spreads depending on the expected meta.
