Death and Taxes is a mono white deck that interacts with opponents primarily through creatures with abilities that constrict player options. This can be in the form of taxation effects like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, casting limitations like Archon of Emeria, or hard stops like Clarion Conqueror. The deck relies on these effects to slow the opponent's gameplan more than its own to win through combat damage.

While Death and Taxes has historically been categorized as an aggro deck in Canadian Highlander, cards such as Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd and Pre-War Formalwear gave the deck more options to win through attrition and made slower variants viable, in a similar shift to its Legacy namesake.
